Jay F.'s Story
Military
SMSgt Jay BrownÂs military career began at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas where he worked in the School of Health Care Sciences holding various jobs including Military Training Advisor and working with Euro NATO Joint Jet Pilot Trainees. Jay also worked with the Inspector General, leading to his promotion under the deserving airman category. Still at Sheppard AFB, SMSgt Brown was selected as the GeneralÂs Aid (Protocol), a position he held until leaving active duty for the Virginia Air National Guard.
Upon joining the Virginia Air National Guard and serving as a traditional guardsman for six months, Jay accepted a fulltime position as the Support Service Supervisor at the newly established 203d RED HORSE Flight in January 1985 and has been responsible for Information Management, Personnel and Training Sections over ...Expand for more
the last 13 years. SMSgt Brown created a newly established unit by building and maintaining outstanding sections based on recent Unit Compliance and Operational Readiness Inspections. Jay has deployed to many locations throughout the world. He not only established postal operations at the 203 RHF, he was asked to do the same in Honduras and Haiti.
Jay has earned three Associates Degrees including one from the Community College of the Air Force and is a graduate of the Senior NCO Academy. He has numerous military awards to include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal with eight oak leaf clusters and Army Achievement medal.
Jay and his wife Sharon have two children, Joel and Megan. They reside in Virginia Beach. In his time off, he enjoys riding and working with his horses.
